Why choose Sublime Scents?

Sublime Scents is commited to providing high-quality, eco-friendly candle and fragrance products that helps support the United States Soy Farmers.  Our main focus is on re-purposing antiques as “new again” natural soy candles and saving an antique from a dusty shelf or the garbage.

The soy wax that Sublime Scents uses is created from domestically grown crops, starting with soybeans from which the oil is separated. This oil is then purified to create pristine soybean oil.  Afterward, the oil goes through a process called hydrogenation which turns it into a solid. Sublime Scents soy candles are are 100% pure soy, guaranteed! The finest botanical oils available are then added to give the wax unparalleled characteristics and performances. Every ingredient in the wax has met with the approval of the United States Food and Drug Administration and Kosher Certification criteria. Our soy is free from pesticides, herbicides and Genetically Modified Material.

Beware of immitators.  Many candles claim to be soy with as little as 25% soy wax content.  Candles that say “Soy-Based” are generally blended with parafin to provide a less expensive, more easily mass produced and shipped product.  Be sure to read the labels when purchasing soy candles to assure that you are getting the all natural product that you are searching for.  Or, you can just purchase Sublime Scents Soy Candles and know that you are guaranteed a 100% Pure Soy Candle with no additives, fillers or blended waxes!

Are any of your products or ingredients tested on animals?

No.  Plain and simple.

Do all of your candles melt into a lotion?

We do not recommend that candles containing colored dyes be used for cosmetic purposes.  Several of our dyed candles are not recommended for body use and are dyed to prevent confusion.  Many people have allergic reactions to dyes, therefore we advise against its use as a body product.

I have never ordered before, how potent are your candles?

We enjoy created natural soy candles that have a pleasing subtle aroma.  Because everyone’s sense of smell is different, we offer the ability to choose your fragrance level.

Leaf = very mild aroma, great for very small spaces such as a small bathroom

Leaves = subtle home filling aroma, creates a mild aroma around the house.

Leaves = knock your socks off fragrance to fill your entire home.

What is the difference between fragrance oil and an essential oil?

Fragrance oil is created in a lab using a mix of naturally derived ingredients and synthetically created aromas to arrive at a fragrance such as “Butt Naked”.  While we cannot retrieve these smells directly from plants alone, we strive to offer the safest and most natural fragrance oils on the market.

Essential oils are made by extracting the oils or esters directly from the plant itself.  The process is labor intensive, but the resulting oils yield many health benefits.

Why are the essential oils candles more expensive than the fragrance oil candles?

Sublime Scents uses Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils. The essential oils are directly removed from the plant by means of extraction.  There are four different methods of extraction; Steam Distillation, which is the most common; Cold Press; Solvent Extraction; and CO2 Extraction.  You can read more about these methods here.  (http://www.newdirectionsaromatics.com/faq.php#EssentialOil) The extensive extraction process combined with the limited nature of the plant resources creates a higher price point for the essential oils.

Are your candles “soot free”?

This is a common misconception.  No burned candle can be soot free.  Sublime Scents is committed to providing the lowest soot and smoke options in candles by using coreless and non-treated paper-cored wicks.  The wicks are then coated in an all natural wax. One of the reasons that paraffin candles emit such a large amount of soot and smoke is due to the metal-cored wick.  Approximately 30% of metal-cored wicks on the market are made of lead.  When the lead wicks burn, they release more lead into the air than the EPA deems is safe.

Candle Burning & Safety

Soy Candles appear to have a “pooling” memory.

This means that a soy candle will have the same diameter burn pool during each burning session.  If a soy candle is not allowed to pool properly during its first use, a “crater like” burn pool can occur creating a tunnel effect, and leaving large amounts of wax unmelted on the side of the container.  For proper burning, you should allow your candle to melt all the way to the edges of the container, during each burning session.  (Approximately 2 hours for small to medium size candles and 4-6 hours for larger candles)

Trim candlewicks to ¼ inch each time before burning.

Long or crooked wicks cause uneven burning and dripping.

Keep burning candles away from drafts, vents, ceiling fans and air currents.

Exposing a burning candle to these air disturbances can cause unnecessary smoking and soot deposits.

Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches and debris at all times.

Always read and follow the manufacturer's use and safety instructions carefully. Don’t burn a candle longer than the manufacturer recommends.  Sublime Scents recommends that you leave your soy candle burning for no more than 4 hours per use.  This will allow you to maintain the wick and avoid unnecessary smoking, soot, and mushrooming.

Make sure a candle is completely extinguished and the wick is no longer glowing before leaving the room.

Extinguish a candle if it flickers repeatedly, smokes, or the flame becomes too high.

The candle isn't burning properly. Let it cool, trim the wick, check for drafts and then re-light.
